The Plank Fellowship

Fund for Teachers fellowships fuel transformative teaching for years to come. To recognize the continuing impact one fellowship makes on a teacher, their students and their community, Fund for Teachers annually names Plank Fellowship Award winners. These individuals demonstrate inspired implementation of their fellowship in unique and powerful ways that extend their summer odysseys throughout their teaching practice over multiple years.

Fellows from 1998 to 2008 are invited to submit documentation outlining the ongoing impact their fellowship makes on them personally and professionally. Each Local Partner accepts applications and passes their representative winner on to the national office for one overall winner. For the first time this year, local Plank Fellow will receive $500 and the national winner will receive an additional $500, as well as plaques recognizing their honor. All 2010 Plank Fellows will also be invited to attend the first Fellows Institute in June 2010, all expenses paid.

Winners will be announced on National Teachers Day, May 4th, 2010.

Deadline for your submission is March 12, 2010. We look forward to hearing about the impact your Fund for Teachers fellowship is making!

Fellowship Recipients

2008
Our 2008 Plank Fellows accomplished many things with their fellowships: from building an archeological dig site, to opening minds to new and misunderstood cultures. Meet the winners and read about their fellowships here.
2007
"Please Come to Boston" may be a popular 70s tune, but this year's Plank Fellowship Award winners left Boston in summer 2007 seeking arts-based education programs that pique the interests of kids with emotional issues.
2006
A trio of Oklahoma teachers have been named as the second recipients of the Plank Fellowship Award.
2005
The 2005 Plank Fellowship is awarded to Matthew Roberts of South Brooklyn Community High School in Brooklyn, New York. Roberts traveled to China on his fellowship, working with Chinese teachers who teach English classes.
