Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence

Founded in 1985 by then-U.S. Sen. David L. Boren, the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence is a statewide, nonprofit organization dedicated to recognizing and encouraging academic excellence in Oklahoma's public schools.

Through its Academic Awards Program, the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence has presented more than $5.1 million in cash awards to honor outstanding public school students as Academic All-Staters and educators as Medal for Excellence winners. Through its Oklahoma School Foundations Network, the foundation provides free technical support, training and networking opportunities to school foundation leaders statewide.

Among its other initiatives, the Foundation for Excellence coordinates a program to send Oklahoma teachers to the Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute each summer and sponsors Colonial Day at the Capitol, a hands-on history education event for fifth graders. In addition to serving as an administrative partner for Fund for Teachers, the Foundation for Excellence administers its own Teacher Professional Development Grants and has developed an online professional development platform for Teachers of English Learners. The foundation also administers the David and Molly Boren Mentoring Initiative to promote the establishment and growth of quality youth mentoring programs throughout Oklahoma.
